Decorating a Bachelor pad
Most home design publications are directed at women, but there are many men who want to decorate their homes too. These men are not looking for pastel walls or shelves full of miniatures. They want to avoid floral color schemes but they want something interesting and exciting to add character to their homes. Decorating a masculine bachelor pad can actually be a lot of fun when you get creative.
If you want the perfect makeover for your masculine room, begin with searching online and even in magazines for ideas you want to try. Don’t choose a home design magazine which wouldn’t be anything you’d choose, but search through magazines you already subscribe to. It doesn’t need to be a story in the magazine, look in the background of ads. You never really look closely to those pictures but there are many great room designs behind them. Make sure to mark down designs that you like and others that you dislike to make your options easier to choose when decorating elements come into play.
Next, you should take a close look at your current room design. Notice if you have any fabulous features that you can play up with the design. Do you have beautiful architectural elements? Are your floors covered in natural wood or stone? Look for the positive so you can accent it.
While women usually redesign rooms from top to bottom, men should redesign rooms from bottom to top. Begin by selecting a rug to use as a focal point. Comfort is important in bachelor pads, so choose something soft that you will enjoy stepping on. You can go with any color you like but keep your lifestyle in mind. Solid colored rugs are ideal for masculine rooms and white rooms make a great statement against the typical stainless steel or black furniture. However, if you have pets or don’t like to vacuum, you should probably choose a beautiful rug in a dark color to hide dirt.
Next, you should focus on your wall color. Paint is the quickest way to transform a room for girly to masculine. Choose a color that will evoke the energy you desire in your space. Choose dark blue for a calming effect or green if you love the outdoors. You could also use a bold red to provoke an energetic, passionate sensation. Avoid busy color schemes or wallpapers that will quickly become outdated.
If you add some lighter shaded curtains they will help to make the bold colors a bit softer. A nice masculine color or something that has stripes is a good choice. Make sure that the curtains go with your flooring or rug if you’ve added it to the room.
Finally, choose some wall art to jazz up the space. You can choose any theme you want for your wall dcor, but avoid posters. Choose nicely framed prints to create a sophisticated bachelor pad, as opposed to a college boy’s dorm room. If you must use posters, place them in nice frames before you hang them up. You could also hang photos of old cars or airplanes. You could also display vintage baseball cards or football helmets on the walls with the help of display cases or shelves. Get creative to personalize your masculine room design according to your tastes and interests.
