Learn how to play the keyboard: My story
I was not the most musically inclined person around when I was younger, although I was born into a family that places some amount of emphasis on musical culture.
When I was young, my parents forced me to piano lessons because they believed that it is going to help my academic learning. I hated practicing on the piano because of the boring piano teacher I had, but also because I never understood why I had to spend a few hours a day sitting on the piano bench, looking at notes and music scores while my peers were playing video games or watching cartoons.
I found the perfect opportunity to give up on the piano within a few months of starting lessons, because I just hated it. I felt as if I took a load off my shoulders when I first gave it up because I no longer need to commit the time, but the relief was short-lived. I soon found something missing within me after I stopped playing the piano.
I underestimated the significance music had in my life, and I soon found an alternative in the keyboard. Having laid off the piano for a few years, I realized that my memories of playing music was fragmented, thanks largely to my lack of interest in the past. I know I need to learn everything all over again and to learn how to play the keyboard from scratch.
I bought a second hand keyboard to start practicing and familiarize, but more importantly, I need to find the right materials to re-educate myself again. Not wanting to go through the pain of blocking time off regularly just to accommodate keyboard classes, I began to look for more flexible ways to learn how to play the keyboard.
I explored the internet, and to my surprise, there were many home-study courses that grant access to all the available materials via the internet whenever I want to. I had other priorities in my life so it is indeed a great convenience that I can now learn how to play the keyboard at my own pace, whenever I want.
Given that I paid less than $40, I was also extremely surprised by how comprehensive the online courses I bought were, and they covered so much more than what I used to learn from all my piano teachers combined.
As I became better at the keyboard, I found myself enjoying playing the keyboard in ways I had never imagined I could. Today, I can easily play the keyboard by ear and I compose some of my own songs occasionally. I find that I have built a good foundation when I learn how to play the keyboard from the online courses, and that has opened up a world of musical possibilities for me in ways I have never imagined.
